In his house, located in the shadow of Table Mountain, Cape Town, the British theatre director, film director, writer and actor Sean Mathias successfully created a wonderful mix of contemporary art, iconic furniture, African artefacts and European influences.

Nestled in a lush garden, his house is covered with light wood siding painted white. The red plastic chairs found at a flea market in London bring a colorful touch to the terrace.

A pool below the terrace is shaded by palm trees.

The entry boasts bold colors. An avid collector of contemporary art Sean Mathias exhibited his art objects in every room. “Nike Girl” by the artist Kilmany Jo Liversage, made of silk ribbons, and unique pieces of ceramic by Barbara Jackson and Shirley Fintz.

The walls in every room are painted in vivid colors like lilac, bright pink, sea green, electric blue and decorated with collections of art and porcelain from Africa and Europe.

The floral print of the sofa picks up the vibrant pink color of the painting by Conrad Boytes.

The lounge with glass walls and roof offers the views of the Table Mountain to enjoy in South African idyll.

The pink wall brightens the dining room, making an interesting contrast with the blue vintage cabinet.
