When the new owners of a 1930′s California Spanish revival-style house in LA imagined its renovation, restoring the building’s original character was a priority. The two-story house had already undergone several renovations straying from its original style. The challenge was bringing architectural authencity back while creating interiors with current flair.

Originally built for legendary Hollywood filmmaker author Erich von Stroheim, the home has strong bones and features beautiful details like ironworks, windows, roof tiles, oak and mahogony flooring, and even an authentic 1920′s hidden speakeasy.

The entire interior was reconfigured as the design team set out to open and lighten up the space. Luxurious details like Jura Beige water-blasted limestome from Germany add and anhance existing materials. The final result is a graceful, intriguing, and comfortable modern home.
